Getting Started

Get from download to your first AI-narrated ride in under 2 minutes.

Requirements

  • iPhone running iOS 17 or later
  • AirPods (any model with squeeze/tap controls)
  • Strava account (optional but recommended)

Step 1: Download & Sign In

Download Ride Director from the App Store.

Sign in with your Apple ID. That’s it — no email, no password, no verification.

Step 2: Connect AirPods

Make sure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone. Ride Director uses AirPods for all audio output and squeeze-to-talk input.

Step 3: Connect Strava (Optional)

Connect your Strava account to unlock:

  • Segment commentary — AI knows your segments and PRs
  • Auto-upload — rides automatically appear in Strava after you finish
  • History comparisons — “8 seconds faster than last week”

Without Strava, you still get basic AI commentary based on your ride data within the app.

Step 4: Start Your First Ride

  1. Tap Solo Ride on the home screen
  2. Put your phone in your jersey pocket
  3. The HUD auto-dims after 30 seconds
  4. Ride normally — the AI will speak through your AirPods

Your first ride will have basic commentary. The app gets smarter with every ride on the same route, building up comparison data for richer commentary.

Step 5: End Your Ride

Long-press the End Ride button for 3 seconds (a circular progress ring shows the hold duration). This prevents accidental stops from pocket touches.

Your ride summary appears automatically, and if Strava is connected, the activity uploads in the background.

What to Expect

In a typical 45-minute solo ride, the AI will speak for approximately 19 seconds total — about 6-9 broadcasts. Silence is the product.

The commentary is factual and restrained:

  • “8 seconds faster than last week”
  • “On pace for a new PR”
  • “New PR. 4:17.”
  • “Picked up the pace”

No cheering. No coaching. Just the facts.
